Wild Rice Packaging

Wild rice packaging is generally handled within two market sectors.

Value-added processors or wholesalers purchase wild rice from processors
and then use it to produce branded wild rice blends. They may also re-package the processed wild rice to sell under their own branded labels.

The marketing retailers sell branded packages of wild rice and wild rice blends while occasionally packaging and selling wild rice products under their own brand name.

The harvest in central Minnesota for 2011 is finished. This year's harvest was described in interviews as fair to poor due to higher water levels in particular during the spring, when the wild rice germinates.
